How to get ready

Your haemophilia physiotherapist may also speak to you about your readiness to play specific sports and may suggest a few things to help you prepare:

  • Training with a gradual increase in activity to build up strength, skill and fitness can help to reduce frequency of injuries. Also tapering to have shorter or less intensive sessions before the competition session
  • Specific training and advice for the sport you want to play
  • It is particularly important to fully rehabilitate after a bleed/injury. In the event of an injury your physiotherapist  can assist you with your recovery and make sure your return to sport is safe
  • Warm up – this is the best way to prevent injury
  • An appropriate standard of coaching and supervision
  • Alternative positions to play in your chosen sport that may have less risk of injury
