WA Youth event - Penny lakes

Wed 10 Jun 2015

Socialising, Eating & Competition at its Finest!

With the challenge set, it was only a matter of time before the rivalry would begin, and so it did. Race names were claimed and game faces were on. Start your engines! WA re-launched its youth program in style on the 7th March when a group enjoyed an afternoon of sport, socializing and sessions on a car racing simulator. What a great day we all had!

Youth ages varied from 12-17, with the mentors also joining the pit crew. Experienced or not, the simulator was not giving anyone an advantage! We started the day with a bit of socialising and ball play… then it was time for the main event; the simulator. A series of 10 minute heats were conducted to qualify for quarter finals. There was an upset when the car simulator briefly shut down and needed a reboot; was this planned, or was a player grasping the steering wheel so hard they corrupted the game!? All in all, the car challenge was intense, competitive and fun. During lunch we had a visit from an overly friendly Kookaburra who may have been slightly more partial to our sausage sizzle than anticipated, but with all 10 fingers still intact the crew greatly enjoyed their afternoon.

A big congrats goes to Dale (mentor) who took out the car simulator ‘Champion Belt’. This title is up for grabs at each event, so it’s your challenge to take Dale down next time and wrestle the belt from his control! Other prizes awarded included ‘King of the Hill’ and ‘Best Quote or Saying of the Day’, with all winners receiving vouchers for their achievements. A big thanks to our helpers; especially for the impromptu Touch Football game that followed. There’s definitely some competing to be had at the next events. All in all it was a fantastic start to a great series of activities we have coming in the remainder of the year! Keep an eye on the HFWA newsletters for further event details and if you want to know more, feel free to get in touch with the HFWA office.

Come along and check us out; but be warned… it might be fun!
